The All About Condo Insurance course is tailor-made for condominium owners and administrators.
The trainer, Me Yves Joli-Coeur, simplifies co-ownership insurance in all its aspects and unveils all its subtleties. The distinguished lawyer will notably address the legislative provisions resulting from Bills 141 and 41, adopted in June 2018 and March 2020 respectively, updated with recent developments. He will also discuss the impacts of Bill 16, adopted in December 2019, which strengthens management and maintenance obligations for co-ownerships, complementing the insurance requirements.
This training will also cover the regulation on co-ownership insurance, which enacted certain provisions from Bill 141. Since April 15, 2021, every co-ownership syndicate must have the reconstruction value of their building assessed by a certified appraiser. They are also required to purchase civil liability insurance for their directors and meeting officers. Additionally, since October 15, 2020, co-owners themselves must obtain civil liability insurance.
In this context, Bill 16 now requires co-ownership syndicates to establish a maintenance logbook and conduct a study of the contingency fund, thus contributing to better risk management related to damages. This comprehensive approach ensures optimal protection of buildings and co-owners by integrating preventive measures with insurance coverage.
Condo insurance is a complex product. It is embedded in a legal context that is just as complex. A careless condo insurance administrator or manager could be held liable in the event of a claim. The same applies to a damage insurance broker or an insurance agent, should they provide inadequate advice.
