Co-ownership management as seen by the international Francophonie

September 27, 2019 - The professionalization of condo managers, as well as the best practices to be deployed within this housing model, have been at the heart of debates for several years now in several French-speaking territories around the world. Whether in Quebec or in Europe, a number of players working in this field are meeting to discuss it.

A delegation from Quebec and their European colleagues continued this tradition on September 24, 25, 26 and 27 in Paris, Lille and Brussels (Belgium). Participants in a four-day management program included Yves Joli-Coeur, lawyer emeritus and Secretary General of the RGCQ, Nadine Lindsay and Claudie Tremblay, respectively President and Chief Executive Officer and Vice-President of the Organisme d'autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec, as well as Jean-Pierre Lannoy, judicial expert in co-ownership and provisional and judicial syndic in Belgium. Syndics are the equivalent of co-ownership managers in Quebec.

The Brussels ‘’EFP’’

On the fourth day of the trip, this delegation stopped at the EFP, whose main objective is to offer co-operative education in sme in the Brussels Region. In this way, this organization encourages young and old to develop entrepreneurial skills.

During this last day, Jean-Pierre Lannoy spoke to an audience of professionals about co-owerships in difficulty in France, Québec and Belgium. He has co-authored a book on the subject with Yves Joli-Coeur and Olivier Brane, a well-known French lawyer in co-ownership law in his country.

Vinciane Hervers, head of the services department at the EFP, believes that the exchanges with this Québec delegation were extremely productive. "The objective of building relationships with Canada has been achieved. We each get a lot of good things out of it," she said at the end of the day.

‘’Village Copropriété’’

In terms of exchanges on co-ownerships in the global Francophonie, Jean-Pierre Lannoy is one of those who have been very active, particularly in 2013, when he joined the international community of Francophone co-ownerships. He succeeded in this by creating the ‘’Village Copropriété’’, in order to initiate a reflection on what a model and exemplary co-ownership should be.
