Definition : Voluntary intervention

Legal proceeding through which a third party, although not part of an ongoing case, decides to participate because they have an interest in the matter or their presence is deemed necessary. This intervention may serve the following purposes:

  1. To take part in the debates during the case's hearing, providing clarification to the court or tribunal.
  2. To assert a right related to the dispute at hand (commonly referred to as a "so-called aggressive intervention").
  3. To substitute one of the parties to represent them or to join them, in order to support their claim, bolster their arguments, or simply reinforce their position (so-called "conservative interventions").
