Definition : Subordinate

Natural person who, in a subordinate relationship, performs one or more tasks or functions under the direction, supervision, and control of another person, called the principal. This supervision and control relationship is referred to as a "subordination relationship" or "position of authority." According to Article 1463 of the Civil Code of Quebec, the principal is bound to make reparation for injury caused by the fault of his subordinates in the performance of their duties,  when such fault cause damage.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW!  Labor laws use the synonymous terms "employee" and "employer" to refer to the subordinate and the principal.
