Definition : Non-profit organization (NPO)

Organization established exclusively for social, educational, religious, or philanthropic purposes, without the intent to provide economic benefits or profits to its members. A syndicate of co-owners is also considered an NPO. From a tax perspective, no income of the NPO may be distributed to its members, shareholders, or owners, except in cases expressly provided by law.
