Definition : Fireplace

A solid-fuel heating appliance installed in a house or apartment for the purpose of making a fire. Most cities have regulations governing wood heating. For example, the City of Montreal has adopted a by-law stating that fireplaces or wood stoves must not emit more than 2.5 g/h of fine particles. Additionally, during a smog alert, no solid-fuel appliance may be used, even certified ones, under penalty of a fine.
