General Court of Appeal under the legislative authority of the Quebec government. However its judges are appointed by the federal government. The Court of Appeal of Québec is the highest court in Quebec (subject to the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Canada). It is responsible for hearing appeals from judgments rendered by the other courts, such as the Superior Court or the Court of Québec, where the law provides for a right to appeal. Its role is not to review the trial judge's assessment of the facts, but rather to ensure that the judgment was rendered in accordance with the rules and principles of Law. The court holds its hearings in Montreal or Quebec City.
