Often referred to as "unemployment insurance", employment insurance is a financial protection in the case of the loss of a job. People can receive employment insurance benefits for a period of time if they respect the following conditions:
1. they lost their job through no fault of their own, that is to say that they were not fired for misconduct nor did they choose to leave their job;
2. they're out of work and have not been paid for at least seven consecutive days;
3. they've worked in a job that is considered "insurable employment";
4. they've worked the minimum number of hours in insurable employment during a qualifying period;
5. they're able and available to work but unable to find a new suitable job.
