Definition : Exclusive professions

Activities carried on by a professional in a particular field established by the Professional Code. Each so-called exclusive profession is governed by a specific law whose purpose is to define the professional activities that are strictly reserved for members of the order. The professions of exclusive practice are advocate, notary, physician, dentist, pharmacist, optometrist, veterinary surgeon, agrologist, architect, engineer, land-surveyor, forest engineer, chemist, medical imaging technologist, radiation oncology technologist or medical electrophysiology technologist, denturologist, dispensing optician, chiropractor, hearing-aid acoustician, podiatrist, nurse, acupuncturist, bailiff, midwife, geologist or chartered professional accountant. Only professionals who exercise an exclusive profession of practice may carry on the activities and bear the title reserved for them by law.
